Represent yourself to our audience…
What's up Croatia – I go by the name of dj@war, reppin the USA, living in London…
Is Hip Hop your first love? What’s the first record that introduced you to Hip Hop?
Hip hop has always been my first love – before it was popular, and before it grew into the global giant it is today! The first Hip Hop record I heard was Walk this way by Run-D.M.C. and Aerosmith. After seeing Jam Master Jay work those turntables, I was blown away!!!!
What was the first record/CD you bought?
The first record I actually bought was Flava in ya by Craig Mack- classic! I'd been listening and recording DJs cutting on the air all my life…
You lived in USA, now you live in UK. What’s the difference (regarding Hip Hop music)? Is there a difference? What do you like about the UK Hip Hop scene and who are some artists to watch out for??
I think there is definitely a difference between how US and UK do Hip Hop, and that's the best thing I can say is going for the UK Hip Hop. I've been saying that the next move for Hip Hop as a whole is international… With advances in the internet etc., other cultures have become so much more accessible – and Hip Hop has to move with those times in order to survive. I'm really feelin Sway's style right now and Black Twang has been puttin it down for a long time…
What are you playing in your car/mp3 player right now?
Right now I've got The Roots latest album in the deck… A classic that defines Hip Hop in these times…
Tell us a little bit more about this years US DMC competition?
Well what else can I say other than it was a great experience to be at a level you had always aspired for… It's an honor when all your life you'd been watching DMC and trying to learn the tricks of our trade. Now I can say someone is watching me and doing the same…
When people come to UK, where can they see/hear you play?
Well I'm always playing up and down the country, but you can check my upcoming dates on www.myspace.com/djatwar
Your number 1 DJ in the world?
I would have to say by far and away DJ Cash Money! As a friend of his I can truly say he's a role model for me not only in terms of his contribution to DJing, but also in his attitude, beliefs, and essence. He is THE definitive of a Hip Hop DJ.
What’s your DJ setup currently? Turntables, needles, mixer, headphones?
Right now I'm rockin two Technic 1200's, Ortofon needles, Sony headphones and the Rane TTM-56 mixer…
What can we expect this week in Gjuro2 club?
I think first and foremost you can expect entertainment… Lots of good vibes, and great music – some you've heard and some you may have not… But all great stuff!
Where is Hip Hop going next? Primo produced an album for Christina Aguilera, Shakira has a big hit with couple of Hip Hop artists, Britney is always cooperating with good Hip Hop producers… What’s next? More expanding or maybe going back to the roots?
As I said before the next move for Hip Hop is international. Hip Hop can never go back, only forward. Being Hip Hop means being original and innovative… With that in mind Hip Hop will never die unless we allow it to through our own ignorance…
Your favorite drink is?
Love Coronas man but I'm ready to experience what you drink in Croatia!
